WordStream’s Best of the Month: April

April was a busy month here in Boston. Between the Boston Marathon, Opening Day at Fenway Park (insert joke about Massachusetts accent here), and the inaugural International Conversion Rate Optimization Day, there was a lot going on at WordStream. Seriously, I don’t think I’ve ever seen Larry as excited as he was on CRO Day.

How do they get the grass to grow like that? Amazing.

In addition to everything that happened last month, we managed to keep publishing insightful, actionable content on the WordStream blog (if I do say so myself). If you missed a few posts, fear not, loyal reader – I’ve got you covered.

Here’s a round-up of April’s most popular posts.

1. 26 Crazy Facts You Didn’t Know About Google: Did you know that Google rents a herd of approximately 200 goats to keep the lawns trim at its Mountain View headquarters? Or that the Googleplex is home to a delightful T-Rex mascot named Stan? Neither did I. Check out 24 other fascinating facts about Google in our most popular post of the month, courtesy of Larry.

2. 15 Landing Page Ideas to Inspire Your Next Campaign: Stuck for ideas for your next landing page? Then check out this post by yours truly. I’ll give you 15 ideas you can steal, as well as examples of real landing pages that utilize these techniques to great effect.

3. 5+ Power Words & Techniques for Writing More Persuasive Landing Pages: Once you’re done pilfering ideas from my previous post (remember, it’s not stealing if you have permission), read this post to see how you can write more persuasively on your landing pages. I’ll show you which words you should use to make your copy more compelling, and explain why certain “power words” can pack a real punch.

4. 14 Marketing Skills to Add to Your Resume in 2015: Trying to land a gig in marketing? Then you need to make sure you’re as irresistible to recruiters as a bored, dissatisfied Googler searching for their next position. In our fourth most popular post from April, Megan shows you 14 skills you need to master to put yourself at the top of the pile.

5. 7 Ways to Write Super-Effective AdWords Ads (with Real Examples): Writing great ads looks easy, but it can be deceptively difficult to write genuinely effective ads that prospects can’t resist clicking. In our fifth most popular post of last month, guest blogger Johnathan Dane of KlientBoost shows you some creative ways to cram as much as you can into those 25 precious characters.

6. 35 Radical Real Estate Marketing Tips: Selling houses is a hell of a lot harder than leaving out finger sandwiches during an open house and making sure the neighbors’ dog stays quiet. Real estate marketing can be very challenging, but Megan offers 35 tips on how to spice up your real estate campaigns in this post.

7. 6 Times Taylor Swift Got PPC Right: How much does T. Swift know about PPC? Quite a lot, apparently. Since this will be the first and last time I ever write “T. Swift,” savor the moment with me, then check out these six lessons on what Taylor Swift lyrics can teach you about paid search by WordStream’s Helen Edwards.

8. PPC #Mobilegeddon is Coming: Never one to miss an opportunity to use a Sean Bean “Game of Thrones” meme, Larry does so to great effect in this post focusing on the implications of Google’s recent mobile-friendly algorithm update on paid search. Will Google’s push for a mobile-friendlier Web affect PPC? Read on to hear Larry’s thoughts.

9. 4 Ways Local Businesses Can Get More Out of Google: As loathe as I am to use the phrase “SoLoMo” (Social Local Mobile), there’s little doubt that local is becoming the driving force in search. In this post, Margot shows you four ways you can get more out of Google to promote your local business.

10. 6 Places to Learn Photoshop for Free (or Almost Free!): Ever wanted to learn Photoshop? Then read no further, as I’ll tell you six places you can acquire badass image manipulation skills completely free, or for next to nothing.
