Director of Human Resources

As a key member of WordStream’s leadership team in this newly created role reporting to the Vice President of Finance, the Director of Human Resources will foster our informal and collaborative company culture while building and executing HR strategies that will enable our continued growth.

As Director of Human Resources, you will be responsible for the full spectrum of HR functions, including onboarding, employee relations, recruiting, coaching/advising, training, compliance, benefits, payroll, and developing internal processes and policies. You will also work to improve annual HR programs such as performance reviews, promotions, and succession planning. In addition, you will consult with the Executive Team to improve organizational design and structure, creating a strategic hiring plan for proactive hiring and smart growth. You will also support recruitment efforts currently being managed by our in-house recruiter and several outside staffing firms.

The ideal candidate has experience managing human resources operations in a start-up culture and works well in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment. You will be the first dedicated Human Resources professional to join the WordStream team. Basic Responsibilities

  • Manage HR administration, including benefits, payroll, and onboarding
  • Partner with management on organizational design, succession planning, and talent assessment 
  • Provide management coaching to build leadership capabilities
  • Identify professional training opportunities for team members to help them to grow skills relevant to their careers and advancement within the company
  • Work with employees to address all types of employee relations issues ensuring a balanced perspective 
  • Assess human resources training needs and conduct 1:1 and/or group sessions as appropriate 
  • Implement/administer/interpret corporate policies/programs/procedures 
  • Partner with managers to retain, develop and motivate people to achieve their fullest potential 
  • Provide compensation recommendations to support the Executive team in hiring and retention 
  • Support with assessing talent and managing performance 

Required Experience and Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of Human Resources experience
  • At least 3 years of experience working in a venture backed technology company that experienced rapid growth
  • Experience managing direct reports
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment
  • Excellent written and oral communication
  • Willingness to solve problems creatively
  • Ability to present oneself as high-energy and enthusiastic, while conveying your ability to be sensitive and maintain confidentiality
  • Knowledge of employment laws
 
  • Experience with MS Office Suite

  • Bachelor’s Degree required
