What is a conversion?

A conversion is any meaningful action completed by a visitor on your website. This can range from making a purchase, subscribing to an email list or newsletter, downloading a whitepaper, or even viewing an important page on your site.

Increasing conversions is a goal that many businesses want to achieve, which makes sense because at the end of the day you want to ensure that you are making money after spending money.  Usually the more conversions you have, the less each of those conversions is going to cost you.

There are numerous steps you can take to increase your overall conversion count. We recommend starting by making account level changes.  Once you’ve made the necessary optimizations to your PPC account, you will need to shift your focus to your landing pages, which also play an important role in PPC conversions.

Before you do anything else:

  1. Ensure that your conversion tracking is set up. This is a vital first step because you need to ensure your conversions are accurately tracked to assess your progress.
  2. Define a specific and realistic goal.  Your conversion number isn’t going to magically increase over night, so think about something that is truly achievable based on past patterns in your business.  Start small so that you can increase your chances of attaining this goal, otherwise you might become discouraged.  Once you’ve achieved your initial goal, you can set something a little tougher to achieve.
